How to use
Pottery has the "joy of growing".
If you keep these tips in mind, your work will become even more appealing over time.
We hope you will enjoy using it for a long time.
Water absorbency
New pottery will absorb moisture.
Therefore, if you use it immediately, it will absorb the broth, tea stains, oils and grease, and may cause dirt and mold.
・When using for the first time, soak the container in clean water for about an hour and allow it to absorb enough water before using.
・After use, soak in water as soon as possible and wash with dishwashing detergent.
・After washing, wipe off the water and dry it before storing it in a cupboard or other place.
・After that, rinse with clean water or lukewarm water each time before use.
・After drying in the dishwasher, soak thoroughly in clean water again before using.
Note: Boiling disinfection
We recommend boiling the product before use after mold has appeared or after it has been stored for a long time.
Boiling with rice or bran before use is generally not recommended, as it may cause mold to grow on the rice or bran that gets into the container.
If you use it as a flower vase and leave it in one place with water in it for a long time, it may seep out or condense and wet the table or stand.
Please use on a rug.
Crazing
Some Satsuma ware is characterized by small glaze cracks (crazing) or stone chips on the surface of the pottery.
Therefore, all white Satsuma and rough clay vessels are treated with a waterproof coating to prevent penetration.
Nevertheless, the color will seep in over time, which gives the pottery its unique character.
Please enjoy the world of wabi-sabi.
If mold appears
Wash thoroughly with dishwashing detergent, boil, and dry thoroughly in the sun before use.
Soaking the item in kitchen bleach will remove more dirt and mold, but the bleach smell will remain.
The odor will be removed by repeatedly boiling and drying in the sun.
Chippage
Some pottery are vulnerable to impacts depending on the materials, manufacturing method, and shape.
If you just throw them into the washtub haphazardly or wash them roughly, the edges may chip or get scratched, so please use each one carefully.
Use of equipment
Please refrain from using microwaves, ovens, or dishwashers.
Sudden temperature changes can cause cracks or breakage, and can also deteriorate the glaze and paint.
In dishwashers, water flow and vibration can cause chips and cracks, and the cleaning fluid can deteriorate the color and luster of glazes and paints.
To ensure that your pottery lasts for a long time, please refrain from using such devices as much as possible.
Note:
We also have pottery that are suitable for use with equipment, so please consult us if you would like to use them.
If the pottery is chipped
Please refrain from using chipped ceramic as it may cause injury.
It may be possible to repair it.
Please contact us if you are interested.
Back of the foot (base)
The underside of the foot has been sanded to remove any roughness, but pottery with a lot of sand and stones cannot be completely removed.
Please be careful not to drag the pottery across a table or tray as it may scratch the surface.
Direct flame
Please do not put pottery directly on fire.
There is a risk of damage.
Overglaze pottery
The paint is baked directly onto the vessel surface.
If you continue to scrub too hard, the paint may become thinner.
Please wash the painted area as gently as possible with a soft sponge.
Although we take great care to ensure that there are no imperfections in our pottery, since it is made of natural clay, there may be variations in color and texture, cracks, chips, water leaks, etc.
If you have any complaints or concerns, please feel free to let us know.
